Most memorable year for me ever. I became a father, my musical hero Michael Jackson died, Warp Records released an awesome 20th anniversary box, "new media"(Twitter, Youtube) revolution in Iran, the recession aftershock and H1N1. Like the other year, I tried to fit some of these events in the mix but it just didn't work out the way I wanted.I did manage to put a lot of music in it though: 65 tracks in 60 minutes!.

In decades the year 2008 will be known as the year of "Change". Not only due to the historical election of Obama but also because of the downfall of the global economic system. For the first time I tried not only to include my musical perception but also some news highlights. I might try to include something like this every year from now on as it makes it an even more complete annual survey. I always imagine how it'll sound in about 20 years when I put on the Best Of mixes. I bet that by including some news highlights the flashback power will rise much higher.

A melodious survey of the year 2007 in a tearing rush, yet taking time for a few snapshots to memorize this year. This years edition is with a certain nonchalant touch as some transitions are on the very edge of being a close call. My will to put up a lot of favorite songs made that there are some abrupt transfers and sudden changes in style/mood. "where there's a will, there's a way" whether it's the right way is up to the listener. I decided to let it in as it happened along the process and because the mix is a random indication and on top of that it totally reflects my current state.

Grim on Mbient - Best of 2006

It's been a tough choice as this was an excellent year for music. I planned to put a lot of my favorites in this. Although achieved I still had to leave out a few thumping good artists like Thom Yorke, Proem, Freescha, Xela, Home Video, Sigur Rós, Julian Fane, Ciaran Byrne, Helios and many more. They just didn't fit the flow of the mix. I was about to end with a touch of Ambient but then the mix would've been way past the 74 min. marker and that is just too long. In spite of that I mixed a lot of my favorites in this, even more songs than in my previous Best of mixes. I tried to make it sound not too chaotic or disrespect the artist for putting too much songs in it. I guess that worked out fine.
